The Cost of Food in Singapore
Eating cost in Singapore largely depends on how extravagant you are when it comes to eating.
You can save a significant amount of money if you can prepare your own food or do not mind eating out in food courts. That being said, while Singapore offers several different international cuisines for pretty much every price range, it is no doubt that eating out on a daily basis can be an expensive option in the long run.
Eating In
If you have the ability to prepare your own food at home, your average monthly food costs shouldn’t come up to anything more than S$200 to S$300 per person for basic ingredients.
Eating Out
In Singapore, food courts and hawker centers are widely available and offer a wide variety of meal at affordable cost. An average lunch at a hawker center should cost you no more than S$4. As far as eating at a food court in Singapore goes, you can enjoy a decent lunch for about S$5 or S$6. A full meal at a fast food joint will cost you around S$7, while a drink at Starbucks will cost you around S$6 or S$7.
When it comes to eating at an average restaurant in Singapore, you could end up paying anywhere between S$20 and S$40 per person for a basic meal. In other words, your food cost should range between S$600 and S$1,000 per month, but it all depends on your eating choices.
